Raheem Sterling has reported for Liverpool pre-season training after calling in sick twice earlier this week, Goal understands.

The winger was absent as the first-team squad returned to Melwood on Wednesday, citing illness, before repeating the claim on Thursday amid ongoing speculation over his future.

Sterling told Brendan Rodgers of his desire to leave Liverpool at the end of last season, with Manchester City since having two bid rejected and are preparing a third.

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard told Sterling to "be a man about it" after the 20-year-old refused to take part in the club's upcoming pre-season tour of Australia and Asia.

Sterling's agent, Aidy Ward, has all trust between his client and Rodgers has evaporated over the long-running transfer saga with the England international widely expected to depart the club this summer.

Liverpool are set to fly out for their pre-season tour on Sunday, ahead of a game against the Thai All-Stars in Bangkok on Tuesday, but it remains to be seen is Sterling is part of the travelling party.
